Trip Log February 10 Thru February 15, 2007
Captain Donald
Greeting from off the Pacific Coast in Panama?Joining us this week were 13 guests all from the United States. Most of these guests were from areas in the northern portion of the US, which were dealing with sub-zero temps with quite a bit of snow covering the ground. All were very happy to arrive in Panama with warm sunshine and the blue waters of the tropical Pacific. Joining us were Gus Gillespie, Bill Gillespie, Jim Fero, Scott Hebertson, Wally Hebertson, Kal Boghdan, Gordon Gibbons, Michael Zontini, Marc Barron, Guy Barron, Dan Lemisch, Kurt Pettipiece and his father, Clayton Pettipiece. What a great group of fishermen!

This week was full of great stories of Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, Dorado and big fat Cubera Snappers! During the week, this group landed over 40 big Pacific Sailfish and teased or saw at least as many as were landed. On Sunday, while tolling off Isla Montousa, two outriggers were hit at the same time, both reels screaming, it was a double hook up of Black Marlin! One scrappy high flyer weighing in at 350 pounds and the other, a nice fat 500 pounder! The fight was on for Wally and Scott, both landing their catch and then releasing them back to the sea. Wally and Scott would later hook up and land a 120 pound Sailfish, some Dorado and Cubera Snapper. Kurt and Clayton would tease up 10 Sailfish with flies on the same day. Marc, Guy and Dan would land a hard fighting 375 pound Black, three sails ranging from 120-130 pounds and a nice 30 pound Dorado. Gus, Bill and Jim landed 3 Sailfish and fought a Blue Marlin. Mike, Gordon and Kal hooked up with two 120 Sails, a Black Marlin and lost another Marlin that spit the hook and ran. This was the first day!

Later in the week, this group would get into some Yellowfin, the largest weighing in around 170 pounds. On a stranger note, during this week Kurt and Clayton would battle with one very large and long Barracuda, which was estimated at 30 pounds, yes I know, but this is one of the largest Barracuda we have seen here on the Pacific side.

Remember, this information is supplies by our guests and sportboat crews. In short, this week saw double hook ups on Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado and (almost) Yellowfin. Here's just the numbers.
Until Next Time....
