Why
should you consider going on a REEF Field Survey trip? Because the REEF fish survey
program offers you an opportunity to explore both local and exotic dive locations
and contribute to science.

The Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is a
non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1990 out of growing concern for the
health of the marine environment, and the desire to provide the SCUBA diving community
a way to contribute to the understanding and protection of marine populations. REEF
achieves this goal primarily through its volunteer fish monitoring program, the
REEF Fish Survey Project.
Field Surveys are a great introduction to fish identification
for novice fishwatchers, and a fun way for experienced surveyors to build their
life list.
When you conduct fish surveys, your diving experience changes.
You start to notice animals that have always been there, but now you know what they
are, and can begin to learn about them. You will be amazed at how much more enjoyable
diving is with an expanded knowledge of marine wildlife.
As a survey volunteer, you dive to gather data at locations
especially important to marine wildlife management and conservation.
So pack your dive gear and prepare yourself for an unforgettable
and rewarding week of diving...
With over 1600 tropical islands in the area, the underwater
magic of Coiba National Park remains relatively untouched by the general diving
public. The pristine water and the unspoiled coral reefs attract over 200 species
of reef and game fish, including King Angels, Moorish Idols, Black Jacks, Blennies,
Yellow-tailed Surgeon, Snappers, Puffers, Pacific Box Fish, and Moray Eels.
