Sample Itinerary: (Balboa to Portobelo Transit) |
Board the ship late in the day, depending upon your flight arrival into Panama, settle into your cabin after a welcome aboard drink and Ship Safety Talk, will we cruise to the North end of the Las Perlas Islands.
|
Day One: The 220 island chain of Las Perlas Archipelagos was a favorite haunt for pirates because of the many coves, beaches and bays that provided ideal hideouts. Wake up on the northern side of the Pearl Islands including Contadora Island, which offer views of luxury resort hotels and beaches, or Pachequita, which offers clear seas and migrating sea birds. Explore the Pearl Islands History and try your luck at finding what the islands were named for: a plump pearl. We'll snorkel, dive, beach comb, view wildlife/marine life and sea kayak. |
Day
Two:We will head up the Rio Mogue to visit an Embera Indian Village, where we spend the day learning their culture and observing daily life. This is a remarkable experience, which also provides an opportunity to negotiate for handcrafted carvings, baskets and ceramics. |
Day
Three:On the agenda today is a visit to the island of San Telmo, at the southern end of the Pearl Islands, with great beaches and interesting historical shipwrecks, including a two man submarine. Not much is known about this submarine, was it a World War II Japanese sub headed for the Panama Canal. How did it get here? The island is owned by ANCON, a Panamanian Environmental Organization. A cruise around the islands offers excellent observation of marine mammals. |
![]() We begin our journey through the Canal at 7:00 am, with each set of locks providing a unique experience. Cruise through Lake Gatun, that feeds both the locks over 52 million gallons of fresh water each time a ship transits the canal. We'll stop by Colon Yacht Club and the Hotel Washington's Pirates Bar for a glass of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. |
![]() Begin your day at the same place Captain Henry Morgan dropped anchor back in January 1671, at Fort San Lorenzo. This impressive cliff-hanging fortress was specifically designed as fortification against pirates when it was built in 1597. Our guides will cover the history, fact and fiction as we hike up to the Fort. This is a great jungle to hike with its black-mantled howler monkeys, three toed sloth's and numerous birds: a tropical sensory delight! |
Day Six: |
Day Seven:The M/V Coral Star's journey ends early this morning. After a hearty breakfast and many goodbyes, you will taken back to shore for your bus ride back to Panama City. Many guests choose to extend their stay in Panama with many optional tours available. |
